How to prepare for your plumbing visit

After the setting up the initial appointment, there are a few things you can do to make your plumbing visit go smoothly.  Here are a few tips to make sure that your plumbing experience is a good one.

Have a clear description of the plumbing issue you need fixed

There are certain things that a plumber will ask you when they first walk through the door. Have the answers prepared and an idea of what service you need. This can speed up the troubleshooting process considerably. Give a detailed account of what the problem is and any past repairs that you are aware of. The more information you have, the faster the plumber will know how to fix it.

Know where things are located

Be ready to show where items such as the water source, water heater, and main water valve are in your home. If you don’t know where these items are, your plumber will not either and it can slow things down if you both have to go searching. Try your best to find them before the plumbing appointment.

Clear the work area where the plumber needs to investigate

If it’s your water heater, shower, toilet, sink, or other plumbing that needs to be fixed, make sure to clear access to the area. Remove items that are stored under your sink, or on the back of the toilet. Move boxes or any stored items you may have around the water heater or furnace. Generally, simply make the work area easy for the plumber to reach.

Put Pets in Another Room

Having visitors to the home can be stressful for pets, and they can sometimes get in the way of the fix. It’s easier if they’re kept in a separate room so they can remain calm and safely away from any work that may be needed.

Have an adult who can make decisions about the work present at the appointment

Often times we can fix the problem in one visit, so it’s best if you are able to make the decisions on how to proceed during the appointment. Sometimes we need to order parts and come back a second time; however if it’s fixable while we’re there the first time it’s faster to be able to approve the work rather than having to book another plumbing call.
